W4 Construction Group, LLC Earns a Roofing/Insulation Project at Battle Creek VA Medical Center

On Sept. 28, 2015, the Department of Veterans Affairs -- Network 11 Contracting Office, awarded W4 Construction Group (W4CG), LLC, a contract to correct attic ventilation and icing issues by installing roofing smart vents and replacing attic insulation at its VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, Mich. The project, estimated at $445,830, will cover multiple buildings (1, 4 and 8-12) and is expected to be completed in February 2016.
Weather conditions and the confined spaces in the attic areas create specific challenges to the project, according Michael J. Odrobina, W4CG's General Manager.
"With this project, we are again demonstrating the wide diversity and capability of the W4CG team," he explained. "We're working closely with the VA Facility Engineer and building occupants to avoid disruption to daily operations. This work involves much more than just the simple replacement of insulation."
Odrobina noted that complete scope of work on this project consists of the following:
• Removal approx. 75,000 square feet of existing 12" insulation by hand
• Install new attic ventilation baffles
• Installation of approx. 50,000 square feet of new R25 Foil Scrim Face insulation
• Demolition and removal of two courses of face brick in confined attic space to open up air flow to soffits
• Installation of new hip and ridge vents
• Installation of roof edge vents
