Chemco Industries Awarded 2nd Year Option to Deliver 3800 Tons of Bulk Rock Salt to Air Force Base

January 27th, 2017 - by Chemco Industries | Share on:

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) exercised the 2nd year option of their Bulk Rock Salt contract with Chemco Industries, increasing the two year contract total to 7,600 tons which amounts to $1.1m. WPAFB is located in the Mid-West city of Dayton, OH and experiences unpredictable amounts of snow during winters ranging from very little to frequent snow storms. Although this part of Ohio generally will not see major blizzards dumping a foot or more of snow, they are on the belt which sees its fair share of freezing rain and wintery mix.

WPAFB has two salt sheds on site. The first shed has a capacity of around 1000 Tons and the second can hold up to 1500 Tons of bulk road salt. The unusual challenge with these salt barns is the opening to the barns is only around 15' x 15', however the ceiling of each barn is much higher. In order to fill each barn to capacity, Chemco provides and operates either salt "throwers" or "stackers" along with the salt deliveries depending on the volume of salt being delivered each day. In 2016, Chemco was able to deliver up to 400 tons of salt per day into WPAFB's sheds using this specialized equipment.
