The Merchant Strategy Awarded Public Relations Contract for Parson's Florida Turnpike Project FPID #415927-1-32-01, 418214-1-32-01

November 15th, 2017 - by The Merchant Strategy, Inc. | Share on:
The Merchant Strategy was contracted by Parsons Transportation Group to create a Level 4 Community Awareness Plan (CAP) for the Florida Turnpike Enterprise widening of the Mainline (SR 91) from the existing six lanes to ten lanes, with accommodation of express lanes, from north of Sawgrass Expressway/SR869 (MP 71.8) to north of Glades Road (MP 76.6). In addition to the CAP The Merchant Strategy was tasked with identifying community concerns and addressing them through media messaging and public information meetings. This includes developing extensive databases, and coordinating a line of communications between the public officials, media, local businesses, and residents impacted by the construction.

The $4.9 million project is comprised of three parts: Part A involves an evaluation of increasing the conceptual design widening from eight lanes to an ultimate ten lanes with express lane ingress and egress points and 90%-equivalent plans preparation for submission to the Florida Gas Transmission (FGT), including 45% traffic control plans. Plans will also include pedestrian improvements, with automated pedestrian detection and/or a pedestrian overpass at Palmetto Park Drive.

Part B is the final design after approval from FGT and to develop level III traffic control plans ready for production. Part C is the conceptual design for 10 lane widening and interchange analysis on Glades Road and Palmetto Park Road. The conceptual evaluation trade and local newspapers, includes various widening options for the 10 lane widening as well as a slope stability analysis of the LWDD canal. TMS will engage the public and the media, developing responses that effectively address issues. Approximately twelve meetings will be implemented to disseminate information to the various agencies and HOA's involved. TMS will develop collateral material to be distributed along with press releases that are direct mailed and distributed through social media. Advertising will be placed in trade publications and local newspapers, and presentation materials will be created for the meetings.

As the design aspects of the project have continued to change with relation to the road widening, the meeting schedule has been pushed back to spring of 2018. The Letting date is currently scheduled for April of 2023.
